Preheat oven 350 degrees with rack centered
1 stick (8 tbsp) butter
4 squares (4 ounces) un-sweet baking chocolate
1-3/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Melt butter over low heat.
Turn off heat, add chocolate and stir occasionally until melted and combined.
Set aside to cool slightly.
In separate bowl, add sugar, salt, and vanilla. Add eggs, one at time, mixing well after each addition. When chocolate is cool, add to bowl and mix well.
Stir in the flour until just incorporated.
Fold in nuts.
Pour into 8 x 8 slightly greased, non-stick pan (or foil lined.) Bake 30-35 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
Orange Glaze for Brownies
1/4 cup granulated, white sugar
1 tbsp finely grated orange rind
1 tbsp butter
2 tbsp juices squeezed from 1 orange
Simmer over low heat until all sugar is dissolved. Drizzle over brownies.
